Red Energy was established in 2004.

Owned by Snowy Hydro Limited, it’s 100% Australian.

You can choose from three residential plans - or four in NSW - and two business plans, with the option to add GreenPower renewed energy.

There’s also a plan for people who have an electric car.

Member programs are at the heart of most plans, with a choice of a retail rewards program or a link to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.

Red Energy at the time of writing offers electricity and gas plans in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the ACT.

There are currently no plans available in Western Australia, Tasmania or the Northern Territory.

Does Red Energy offer green energy?

Red Energy offers 100% accredited GreenPower products to residential and business customers.

You just need to ask for GreenPower to be added to your account.

Keep in mind GreenPower currently costs an estimated 4 to 8 cents per kWh on top of the standard rate – that’s around $1 a day for an average household.

Red Energy also has a renewable matching promise available on their Red EV Saver plan, Red Business Saver plan, Red Taronga Saver (NSW only) and Red Solar Saver plans.

For every unit of electricity you buy from Red Energy, Snowy Hydro will match it by generating one unit of electricity from a renewable source.

Does Red Energy offer solar rebates?

Red Energy offers solar rebates.

If your solar power system is linked to your current electricity account, Red Energy will apply the appropriate feed-in tariff as a credit on your new Living Energy Saver, Qantas Red Saver or Red Taronga Saver account.

What residential energy plans does Red Energy offer?

Red Energy offers four residential plans with a range of prices, member benefits and discounts. Their prices change regularly, so make sure you compare policies to see if you’re getting a good deal before switching providers.

Living Energy Saver (SA, VIC, NSW, QLD, ACT)

An electricity and/or gas plan for people who want a comprehensive member rewards program included.

Available for new customers and existing customers who are moving home or adding a new property.

Red Energy offers two business plans across NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and ACT and one solar-energy plan specifically for NSW.

An electricity and/or gas plan for businesses that want reliable energy without a member rewards program.

Available for new and existing business customers, on a business tariff, who are moving or adding a new business premises.

Ways to pay your bills

Pay your bill online, by phone, use BPAY, mail or in person at Australia Post or Centrelink.

You can also set up direct debit so payments are automatic. 

To avoid large bills, you can spread your payments with EvenPay®, where set amounts are regularly deducted by direct debit.
