New Comparison Service Helps Aussies Save Big on Energy Plans

What if we told you there’s a way to save more on your power bills? If you’re a QLD resident, and you’ve been stuck with the same electricity provider for several years without comparing other offers, chances are you’re paying too much for energy.

Electricity is a vital expense for many Aussie seniors, who are doing everything they can to save on costs. No matter how diligent you are about turning off the lights and using energy-efficient appliances, sometimes it seems like the bills keep getting higher.

Thanks to a clever comparison service, mature Aussies now have another way to save on electricity, and it could be the most effective method of all. This service has arrived at a time when older Australians are battling increasing electricity prices. Statistics show that rising electricity costs rank as the top concern among Australian consumers.

Electricity and Gas is an Australian comparison service taking power away from the electricity industry and putting it back in the hands of consumers. Now Australians can compare name brand electricity providers all in one place, saving them time and money.

Here’s How You Do It:

Step 1: Select your State below.
Step 2: After answering a few questions, you will have the opportunity to compare quotes in your area and could be eligible for significant savings.

It’s hard enough to manage the bills on a budget, but even harder when those bills are getting higher. That’s why the team at Electricity and Gas has compiled a list of rebates and concessions available in Queensland.

Energy Concessions for Seniors

Each state government offers a discount to Pensioner Concession Card or Seniors Card holders. The title, value and eligibility requirements of these concessions vary from state to state, so be sure to check your state government’s website to confirm what discounts may be available. Some energy companies, such as EnergyAustralia, AGL and OriginEnergy provide concessions to seniors all across Australia.

“EnergyAustralia provides electricity and gas concessions on behalf of the Department of Human Services to customers holding an eligible Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card, Centrelink Health, Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card For All Conditions, Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card (TPI), Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card (EDA), Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card (War Widow), Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card (POW).”*

  • Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme

The Queensland Government offers a range of concessions and rebates to eligible households in Queensland to assist with energy costs. Additional rebates may also be available to electricity account holders with low incomes and health conditions.

Electricity Rebate

Queensland pensioners, seniors, asylum seekers and eligible low-income households can receive $340 per year from their electricity bills.

Reticulated Natural Gas Rebate

The Reticulated Natural Gas Rebate currently provides a rebate of $70 per year to Queensland pensioners and seniors. Applicants must be the registered customer of a gas retailer at the home address for which the rebate is claimed.

Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme
Low-income households who are experiencing a short-term financial crisis or emergency that has limited their ability to pay their current electricity bill can receive a one-off payment of up to $720. A customer is only eligible for a HEEAS grant once in every two years.

Electricity Life Support Concession

This concession provides an electricity life support concession payment for eligible people who are seriously ill and use a home-based oxygen concentrator or kidney dialysis machine.

Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme

This concession helps people who have a chronic medical condition that requires air-conditioning to regulate their body temperature. Eligible customers can receive up to $340 per year.

For all available concessions, it is best to contact your retailer over the phone or via their website. Your retailer will check your card details with Centrelink and apply the concession to your bill.
