This service has arrived at a time when older Australians are battling increasing electricity prices. Statistics show that rising electricity costs rank as the top concern among Australian consumers.

Electricity and Gas is an Australian comparison service taking power away from the electricity industry and putting it back in the hands of consumers. Now Australians can compare name brand electricity providers all in one place, saving them time and money.

Here’s How You Do It:

Step 1: Select your State below.
Step 2: After answering a few questions, you will have the opportunity to compare quotes in your area and could be eligible for significant savings.

It’s hard enough to manage the bills on a budget, but even harder when those bills are getting higher. That’s why the team at Electricity and Gas has compiled a list of rebates and concessions available in the Australian Capital Territory.

Energy Concessions for Seniors

ACT Electricity Rebates

The Australian Capital Territory has two energy rebates for residential senior customers:

  • Utilities Concession
  • ACT life support rebate

Utilities concession

The Utilities Concession is calculated on a daily basis. It covers electricity, natural gas, water and sewerage, with rates depending on the season. It is available for your principal residence only, with the account in the cardholder’s name. Only one Utilities Concession per eligible household can be claimed. The annual rebate amount has increased since 2018 to $654.00. The Utilities Concession will be applied to the applicant’s electricity account.

The Utilities Concession is also available to eligible residents of ACT caravan parks and retirement villages with embedded electricity networks. This concession will be paid directly to eligible residents. For more information, we recommend contacting the ACT Revenue Office directly.

ACT life support rebate

If the life support equipment you depend on is electrically operated or requires a fresh supply of water, then the account holder of your residence may be entitled to a rebate on the electricity account and/or the water usage charges. The rebate is calculated on a daily basis. Each rebate will appear on the electricity and/or water bill as a separate line item.

Additional rebates may also be available to electricity account holders with low incomes and health conditions. For all available concessions, it is best to contact your retailer over the phone or via their website. Your retailer will check your card details with Centrelink and apply the concession to your bill.
